I began my self-proclaimed "Rock Star" career with a local dance band called "Fool Proof". Fool Proof featured 70's-current dance music and allowed me to perform with my sister and focus on my two favorite things-Music and "shake, shake, shaking your bootie" (dancing...hehe)! Fool Proof provided the opportunity to take our high-energy show on the road to the local scene as well as perform throughout the region at universities, corporate parties, nightclubs, casinos, etc.FUN, FUN, FUN! With Hard Candy I will bring the same high energy performance that I am known to deliver!!!
The first time that I appeared on stage, it scared me to death. I really didn't know what all the yelling was about. I didn't realize that my body was moving. It's a natural thing to me.
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.
I stand for freedom of expression, doing what you believe in, and going after your dreams.
Sometimes you have to sacrifice your performance for high heels.
Find out who you are and do it on purpose.
If it's illegal to rock and roll, throw my ass in jail!
Joe’s been playing keyboards since age 6 when he began taking accordion lessons. His first group was an all accordion band at his music teacher’s studio when he was 7. His first Rock band happened in 5th grade, when he teamed up with a drummer, guitarist and sax player to take on early Beatles and Stones tunes which were the rage at the time!
Freshman year in high school Joe got his first “compact” organ – a Farfisa combo-compact-deluxe, and from that day forward, keyboards were Joe’s main axe for his Rock & Roll adventures. After a few musical experiments, Joe settled in with the “6 pack” and with the assistance of a professional manager, managed to play the “Hullabaloo Scene” live music clubs and other venues across Northern New Jersey, New York and as far north as Vermont!
After graduating from Manville High School, Joe attended engineering college in Indiana, where he played frat parties with “The Groovy R&R Band” during his college years in Fort Wayne. After relocating to Cincinnati, Joe played in “Electric Blue” and “Milk” at almost all the venues so well known to the club scene in the greater Cincinnati area.
Joe’s current rig consists of a Kurzweil PC3 Synth and a homebrew keyboard amp stack.
When not pursuing R&R adventures, Joe continues to expand his knowledge of Solar Power, competes in aerobatic competitions with large radio control airplanes, tinkers with his 67 Mustang Coupe, and enjoys target shooting and keeping up on Survival skills. Most recently, Joe received NABCEP Certification in PhotoVoltaic Solar Panel design and installation and is offering his services to folks who want to DIY a solar panel installation on their homes and save big bucks compared to a commercial installation firm. He's got a website at Cincihomesolar.com
Jim started playing drums at the late age of 17. He took to drums naturally, but still worked hard at improving his skills on his first Slingerland drum set. At age 19 he formed his first band “Mars” with two close friends.
Jim then spent a ten year stint as drummer in “Electric Blue” where he eventually met current “Short Bus Mafia” keyboardist/guitarist Joe Utasi. After “Electric Blue,” Jim became a founding member of “The Looking Glass” where he met current “Short Bus Mafia” vocalist John Van Camp.
Three years later the band changed its name to “MILK.” “MILK” had a devoted following and played most of the popular clubs in the greater Cincinnati area.
After many years spent booking and playing in music, Jim decided to take some well deserved time off. Feeling the pull of music again, Jim began assembling “Short Bus Mafia.” Jim currently plays a 7 piece Custom Pearl Maple drum set and sings a few backing vocals as well. Short Bus was short lived, which led Jim (and Joe) to hook up with Hard Candy.
When Jim is not playing music or booking the band, he coaches high school JV soccer in the fall and club soccer in the spring. In between soccer and music, you can find Jim following his sons as they play college football, kicking for the the Tigers (semi pro Cincinnati team) (Joe) and the Ohio Dominican Panthers(Chris).
Since the tender age of 9, Richard has been working on perfecting his chops to entertain people far and wide. Richard has an ability to do just that, from burning up the fretboard to showing you what color his underwear is, Richard covers all the bases. Playing bars and clubs since the age of 16, he found his true calling, making a fool of himself and looking good doing it! Richard's first gig was at the age of 11 at a birthday party. " I got $4 and some ice cream, Mmmmm strawberry". Now his musical journey leads him to Hard Candy. Rich is ambi-dextrous, double-jointed, and has memorized the entire KamaSutra in order to reach a higher plane of physical extacy in his free time exploits. Rich is really looking forward to rockin, groupies and ice cream. Life is good.
Craig was born and raised in Cincinnati and has been playing instruments as long as he can remember. Growing up in a musical household, he was encouraged to pick up any instrument he liked. While he dabbles in a number of them, bass is his favorite because, well, there's nothing like that big bass thump that kicks you in the chest. For years Craig could be seen and heard playing guitar and bass around Cincinnati, either fronting his band The Geezers, smashing basses with The Droans, or playing guitar and bass behind the scenes in for shows at The Know Theater and for various other local theater groups. He spent five years in New Hampshire where he was the bass player for Sneeky Pete before returning to Cincinnati in 2012. When he's not rocking with Hard Candy, Craig is pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Cincinnati, teaching college courses, and writing and recording original songs. He also really likes pizza.
